Description: | Medal commemorating the victories over the Turks in Morea, 1687. Obverse: Winged lion of St Mark rampant, erect (left) sword with laurel branch twined round blade in right paw, a dolphin in left, garlanded. A broken bow and arrow on the ground under his feet. Legend: 'EX UTROQUE VICTOR.' (Victor on both sides). Reverse: The Doge seated under a canopy with three councillors receiving tribute from two Turks kneeling before him. Legend: 'PARCERE SUBIECTIS ET DEBELLARE SUPERBOS SCIT NOBILIS IRA LEONIS.' (The righteous wrath of the lion can spare the oppressed and crush the proud.) Inscription (on edge): 'SERENISSIMI LEONIS ALATI SOLO SALOQUE TURCARUM VICTORIS TRIUMPHALE FLORILEGIUM 1687.' (The triumphal garland of the most serene winged lion, conqueror of the Turks by land and sea.) (Subject of Nuremberg)
