Description: | Scale: 1:192. A half block model of the starboard side of the 16-gun corvette HMS Calliope (1884), made entirely in wood and painted tan brown below the waterline, and black above with two narrow gold stripes just below the gunwale running the entire length of the vessel. Hull details include raised bulwark at the bow; rows of portholes and a single row of rectangular gunports amidships; bilge keels; two battery positions fore and aft of amidships; two starboard hawse holes, stern gallery windows and decoration; and a well for the propeller which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Other fittings include stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast and a single tall funnel painted ochre. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge and with a very large tin- or zinc-plate painted label attached to the lower part of the frame.
