keer omme
A simple but evocative study of a calm that suggests a recent storm survived. To the right is a port broadside view of a ship with the foremast carried away. A second ship lies at anchor to the left and land is visible in a distance. The liberal use of such a dark wash is unusual, but effective. The present attribution to the younger Van de Velde is tentative.
The drawing is inscribed ?keer omme? (turn over), but there is nothing on the back.
