Description: | ?W. V. V J?
In the right centre is a port-broadside view of a States yacht with her mainsail brailed up, under staysail only. Flags are at the masthead and peak. In the foreground is a boat, possibly added by a later hand. In the background, a number of large ships are shown, two on the left have flags at the main, and one on the right has a flag and pendant at the main. An inscription at the top left corner has been cut off.
This drawing is attributed to the Younger on account of the delicacy of the pencil and wash. The pronounced rake of the mainmasts is also characteristic of his work at this period. It is approximately dated by the style and watermark.
The boat in the foreground may have been strengthened by Dominic Serres.
