Description: | Full hull model of the Lorna Doone (1887), a cargo schooner, with topsail. Model is decked, equipped and rigged, with sails set. The exterior of the hull is painted black and is complete with a midship's plimsoll line. The two main cargo hatch covers lift off for access to the interior of the hull for adding ballast when under sail. The name "Lorna Doone" is on the port and starboard bows and "Lorna Doone Barnstaple" is on the stern. The model is mounted on a Chatham storage baseboard.
CA: BBC. Lead actively deteriorating. Ratlines damaged.
Both the name and certain features of the hull are fictitious, according to a letter from the model maker, Francis T. Wayne.
