Description: | Scale: 1:96. A full hull model of HMS ?Lightning?, a wooden paddle gunboat launched in 1823. The model is built with planks on a solid block hull, is fully equipped on deck and is complete with two masts with standing and running rigging.
The ?Lightning? was one of the first steam powered vessels to appear in the Navy List and as such, her shallow hull and paddle wheel propulsion made it ideal for survey work. During her 45 years of service, she carried out extensive surveys of the British Isles, Norway and Russia. She also did some pioneering work in deep sea dredging for marine biology and oceanography.
