Description: | Watch stand commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A folk-art carving perhaps inspired by Nelson's Column, completed (minus the lions) in 1843 in Trafalgar Square. A figure representing Nelson stands on the top without a hat or the supporting coil of rope of E. H. Baily's statue there. The plinth is carved with a ship in full sail, an anchor, a cannon and chain shot. The hole for the watch is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel, flanked by naval trophies. The whole stands on a base of three steps with a lion on either side.
