Description: | Scale: 1:48. A block design model of the ?Rippon? (1725), a 50-gun small, two-decker. The name ?Rippon? appears on the port broadside below the waterline and is just visible beneath the paint on the poop deck.
There are problems of identification, however. The model?s dimensions are those of a 50-gun ship on the Establishment of 1719 (see SLR0415). The ?Rippon?, however, was a 60-gun fourth rate that had been launched in Deptford in 1712, and continued in service until 1729. A new, larger ?Rippon? was commissioned almost immediately, and built (like Anson?s ?Centurion?) on a modified 1719 Establishment that prefigured the new 1733 Establishment. It was 145 feet long and 40 feet in the beam and carried about 400 men. It was armed with twenty-four 24-pound guns on its gun deck, twenty-six 9-pounders on its upper deck, eight 6-pounders on its quarterdeck and two 6-pounders on its forecastle.

CA: BAB. Referred to as a Portsmouth Dockyard Museum model (cat. No. 33) in Anderson's catalogue (1952).
