Description: | Scale: 1:96. A model of the starboard side of the Manchester City (1898). The model is made entirely of wood with silver-plated fittings and is painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted dark pink below the waterline and black above, with a fine white stripe running the entire length of the hull just below main deck level. Hull details include a flat bottom, an anchor stowed at the bow, a companion ladder rigged amidships and a four bladed propeller. A row of portholes run the length of the hull below deck level and there is a shorter row above. Foredeck details include four hatches, two derrick masts, a pair of derricks and a forward bridge lookout. The superstructure is placed amidships and fittings include a flying bridge, pilot house, small cargo hatch, single red painted funnel with two black horizontal bands, two double ended boats on davits and four transom-sterned boats, also on davits. The aft deck has four cargo hatches, one of which is in a well, two derrick masts and a deckhouse at the stern. The model is displayed in its original mahogany-framed display case with glass front and top, the top panel of which is a regular rhombus in shape. the interior of the case has two bevelled side mirrors and the model is displayed on a mirrored backboard.
