Description: | W. V. V. J.
A portrait of the sixth-rate ship ?Saudadoes?, also called ?Sodalis?, viewed in broadside from before the starboard beam. She was built as a 6-gun yacht in 1670 and rebuilt as a 16-gun vessel in 1673, and was captured in 1696. The drawing shows nine wreathed ports with sweep-ports between the gunports, and a figurehead in the form of a man on horseback with a cherub behind. It is a rather weak offset, rubbed on the back, taken from a careful and accurate original, and has been partly worked up with wash.
