Description: | Scale: Unknown. A model of a typical 19th century Japanese boat made entirely in wood and unpainted apart from the hull below the waterline which is stained black. The hull has been made plank on frame and the hull shape is flat bottomed with a very steeply raked stem post and sharp bow. The main deck is partly enclosed by a shallow-pitched roof made of slatted wooden panels. The cabin area aft is open on all sides with a slatted fibre roof. The single mast rises through the front of the cabin roof and is set with a single rectangular sail rigged from the yard. The sail is made of fine cotton with very fine black, widely spaced vertical stripes. The sides of the model are extended above the waterline by beams that project out over the sides of the model. There is a simple rudder with a tall rudder post but no tiller.
