Description: | Scale: 1:12. A contemporary(?) full hull model of the Hastings lugger The Only One (active 1860). Built plank on frame, the model is decked, equipped and fully rigged with all the sails set.
CA: AAB.
It does not appear to represent a named vessel as the registration ?RX1? belonged to Day Spring (owners J. C. and C. J. Wilson 1908).
These vessels are very robustly built as they were launched and recovered from the open beach. They would fish the mackerel shoals all the way through to the south-west during the spring, whilst during the summer, they would join the larger fleets of luggers on the east coast fishing for herring, sometimes as far north as Scotland.
When fishing vessels were scrapped or de-registered, their port of registry number was re-issued which may explain the number being given to Day Spring in 1908.SS
