In the left foreground is a lee quarter view of a smalschip with the wind on her port quarter. On her port beam, is another smalschip crowded with people and at her stern is an ensign. Close ahead of her, is a starboard quarter view of a hooker with her mainsail drawing, foresail shivered and lateen mizzen brailed up. On the right is another hooker running across the bows of the other. There is a Dutch ship at anchor in the centre background.
This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder.
