Description: | BANKS LONDON / Instru.t Maker to his MAJESTY
III
XXIX
The barrel of this achromatic telescope is made of mahogany and there are three brass draw tubes. The other brass fittings include a sliding eyepiece cover. The objective lens cap is missing. The original leather case also survives.
The maker's name appears on the smallest draw tube as 'BANKS LONDON / Instrut. Maker to his / MAJESTY'. Several parts also have the numerals ?III? roughly inscribed on them, probably as part of the manufacturing and assembly process. Like NAV1680, this telescope once belonged to Captain Oliver Stokes RN.
Focal length: 26.25". O.G.diameter: 1.5".
