Description: | Viewed from abaft the starboard beam, a portrait of what may be the ?Dover?, 48-gun fourth-rate, built 1654, rebuilt 1695. Square decorated ports are shown.
It is probably one of the many 48-gun ships, which in 1677 had 22 guns on the gun deck, 20 on the upper deck and six on the quarterdeck. It is not the ?Assistance?, ?Bonaventure?, ?Bristol?, or ?Mary Rose?. The quarter galleries and disposition of the ports seem to agree with those of the ?Dover? (see PAH1847).
Other drawings on the same paper may be as late as 1686.
Box Title: D32 M378-M394.
