Description: | Distinguished Service Cross awarded to Sub Lieutenant R. T. C. Worsley RNVR for bravery during the raid on St Nazaire. The citation was published in the ?London Gazette? 21 May 1942. Robert Thomas Christopher Worsley served as Gunnery Officer in MGB ?314? during the St Nazaire Raid in 1942. In command of the raid was Commander Robert Ryder who chose to direct the operation in MGB ?314? commanded by Lieutenant Curtis RNVR and with Able Seaman Savage as gun-layer. Bill Savage who was killed during the operation was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross which is also in the Museum?s Collection (MED2108).
The medal is in the form of a plain silver cross pattee, convexed. In the centre of the obverse is the Royal Cypher. On the reverse is the inscription: ?SUB LIEUT R.T.C.WORSLEY R.N.V.R. 1942?. It is suspended from a blue ribbon with a central white stripe. The medal is mounted on a bar with five others: 1939-45 Star (ZBA3030), Atlantic Star (ZBA3031), Africa Star (ZBA3032), Italy Star (ZBA3033) and War Medal 1939-45 (ZBA3034).
