Description: | Full hull model of the 'Muirneag' (1903), a Scottish zulu, sailing fishing vessel, built at a scale of 1:24. The model is decked, equipped, and rigged with the sails set. On the mainsail and port and starboard bows is ?SY486?. The vessel?s name is written on the port and starboard bows and ?Knock? is written on the stern quarters. An attached label reads ?Zulu?.
CA: BBC.The lug-rigged zulu is regarded as the finest type of sailing vessel developed for the Scottish herring fishery in the 19th century. Built by W. R. McIntosh & Sons, Bukie and launched in 1903, ?Muirneag? represents the ultimate development of the type with the raking stern post and exposed timber frames around the gunwale.
