Description: | ?W. V. V J?
A free but very accurate drawing of a Dutch frigate viewed from the port quarter. Fore topsail and spritsail are loosed and other sails are clewed or furled. A pendant is on the mizzen. On the tafferel are four round-topped panels that are left blank. On the fail above is probably the arms of Amsterdam supported by dolphins. On the counter are two shields, the one on the port side bearing the arms of Amsterdam.
The drawing is not rubbed on the back, but may be a faint offset carefully worked up. Assumed by the subject and watermark to have been drawn during the Younger?s visit to Holland in 1686.
Box Title: Ingram. Van de Velde 1686-1701. G 1294-1427.
