Description: | Greenwich Hospital School was set up for the sons of poor seamen who were pensioners of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich. After absorbing the separate Royal Naval Asylum in the 1820s (which had occupied what are now the NMM buildings from 1806) it became much larger and also educated girls until 184. In 1892 it was formally renamed the Royal Hospital School and in 1833 left Greenwich for Holbrook, Suffolk, where it continues to thrive as an independent school, again co-educational since the late 1980s. It has a strong and longstanding musical tradition, the boys left centre here being members of the School band. Mounted on sheet with PAI8814-PAI8816.
