Description: | dit zijn ofdruckxsels vande voornaemste schepen
Portrait of the French ship ?Neptune?, viewed from the port beam. She was built in Holland in 1666, about 72 guns. She was renamed ?Illustre? in 1671; she was struck off the list in 1699.
This is an accurate drawing, probably based on an offset, being rubbed on the back, worked up with pencil and wash.
A drawing in the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum, Rotterdam, showing a ship viewed from the starboard quarter has been tentatively identified as the ?Neptune? mainly on account of the large figure of Neptune above the tafferel; it agrees fairly closely but not exactly with PAG6210 as regards the arrangement of the ports.
