Description: | Portrait of the ?Zierikzee?, viewed form the starboard quarter and on the broadside showing twelve guns on the gundeck, ten on the upper deck and five on the quarterdeck. The arms of Zierikzee (a crowned lion rampant) on a crowned shield appear on the tafferel, supported (dexter) by a mermaid and (sinister) by a merman, each riding a dolphin. On the rail above a plain shield supported by dolphins, and a plain cartouche surrounded by foliate decoration on the counter.
A careful, accurate drawing, not in reverse but probably based on an offset; it is completely worked up with a dull grey wash. Other drawings on the same paper are dated 1660 or after, but the style of wash is more like the Elder?s work done on one of the Northern expeditions in 1658 or 1659.
