Cambrian
Scale: 1:48. A model of the starboard side of the elliptical stern of HMS Active (1845) made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The model is carved from solid wood and painted a copper colour below the waterline and black above with a white stripe along the gun deck. The gun port areas are painted black with a red highlight. The deck is painted cream. Handwritten on deck is 'Active, 1853'. Stamped on deck '23' and '6'. Indistinctly written on the deck is 'Cambrian'. The propeller apperture is shown but the propellor itself is not depicted. The stern quarter shows signs of being changed or modified. Three stern gallery windows are depicted. The model is displayed on a plain backboard painted off white.
CA: BAB. Referenced in the 1876 Royal Naval Museum Catalogue pg 29, Victory, No 1 'Starboard stern section of HMS Active' with page 107, No 589 refering to the South Kensington 1869 Catalogue.
In the 1913 Royal Naval Museum catalogue there is reference to an 'elliptical stern of HMS Active 1845' Cumberland Room, No 10 Case, No 17, page 84
