Description: | Scale: 1:24. A contemporary full hull model of the 'Victoria' (1838), a cargo schooner, built plank on frame. Model is decked, and fully equipped and rigged with sails (modern replacements) set.
Built at East Looe, Cornwall, the ?Victoria? measured 72 feet in length by 18 feet in the beam and an approximate tonnage of 62 net. Typical of the British schooners engaged in general trades in the middle of the 19th century, the hull form is much more rounded and deep and has fuller bows than later types of schooner. It is rigged throughout with hemp for both standing and running rigging and heavily rigged masts and full headgear, all typical of the sailing vessels of its time.
