Description: | Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the starboard side of the three-masted cargo ship Sutherlandshire (1882), made entirely in wood, painted and polished. The hull is polished wood made up of several horizontal sections below the waterline and black above with a broad off-white stripe running the entire length of the hull onto which is painted black rectangles that resemble gunports. Hull details include a clipper bow; single strake and gunwale in polished wood; and rudder. Fittings include figurehead; foredeck and poop deck; a stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast; and long deckhouse positioned between the foremast and mainmast. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard with bevelled edges, the lower half of which is mahogany the upper half, a light-coloured wood, probably maple, the dividing point indicating the waterline of the depicted vessel. Hand-rendered in centre of backboard beneath model ?Sutherlandshire?. Hand-rendered on backboard ?Russell & Co Shipbuilders Greenock & Port Glasgow.
