Description: | Roijal a? schaep
This is a depiction of a vessel viewed from before the starboard beam. There are five square decorated ports on the broadside.
This is a rapid but nonetheless accurate drawing and it has been approximately dated by its watermark. There is another similar drawing of this vessel in the British Museum, which was probably a preparatory work for finished oil paintings of the same subject. These pictures are ?The ?Royal Escape? in a Breeze? by Van de Velde the Younger, dated before 1685 and currently in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405211) and ?The 'Royal Escape' Close-Hauled in a Breeze? (BHC3600), in the NMM.
Box Title: D35. M418, M426-M432, M435, M437-M440.
