Description: | A rapid drawing showing a smack from close under the bow, with several figures on board. The positions of the tiller (?helstock?), lantern (?lantaeren?) and cabin-top amidships (?blanck?) are indicated. On the right, a similar smack viewed from further away and on the port bow.
The vessel on the far left is shown with a hatchway on the starboard side near the mast which the other has not. In this it agrees with PAH1887, which is inscribed (perhaps incorrectly) ?Roijal a? Schaep?. The vessel on the right seems to be the same vessel as the ?Royal Escape? in the British Museum drawing (CM92); this latter drawing was used for the painting in the NMM.
This is a pencil drawing by the Younger, signed in brown ink ?W.V.VJ?.
Box Title: Van de Velde 1685. Ingram nos 1225-1265.
