Description: | Scale: Unknown. A model of a lathe made in metal. The machine is mounted on a platform supported by four architectural brass columns inclined at an angle of about 80 degrees and the working components are made in brass and steel. Two sheaves are depicted, one set up in the machine, the other, which is finished, is used for demonstration purposes. One sheave has its faces turned to a flat surface and is fixed on the plane chuck and the tool held on a slide which works across its face by means of a worm wheel, pulley, and screw driven by a worm on the spindle of the lathe. The groove on the periphery of the sheave in which the rope runs is also cut out by a hand tool so the sheave is ready to be placed in the block. Attached to one of the columns is a small wheel used for driving the larger wheel operating the lathe using a drive belt. The lathe wheel can also be turned using a handle. The rectangular mahogany baseboard has bevelled edges and a small lozenge shaped hole at the centre. On baseboard: 'G' and 'No 41 Div B Class 14'.
