Description: | Portrait of the ?Speedwell?, fifth rate, 28 guns. She was built in 1656 as the ?Cheriton?; she was renamed in 1660 and wrecked in 1678.
She is viewed from before the port beam; a quarter-badge high up on the quarter. It has been identified from a very similar but a more finished drawing (PAH1843); it shows, however, a ship with only eight ports on the gundeck.
it is freely and accurately drawn by the Younger without the assistance of an offset.
