Description: | This is one of two drawings (along with PAH9369) executed in rapid pencil with every appearance of having been drawn on the spot. Their style and subject matter both suggest that they belong to van de Velde?s voyage to the Mediterranean in 1694-95.
This is a very slight drawing of the stern of a ship, viewed from a little on the port quarter. It shows an open gallery with a figure, probably the Virgin and Child, on the tafferel. On either side of the figure is a door, indicated by the very faint inscription ?duer? on the left.
Box Title: D36. M433-M434, M436, M441-M452.
