Description: | Metal tellurium with a candlestick holder for the Sun. The Earth is represented by a small printed globe. There is a handle at one side to work the gears that move the Moon round the Earth and the Earth round the Sun. The arm by which the Moon is attached to the rest of the instrument is bent out of place. Around the Sun is a paper calendar scale. The metal casting, the overall design, and the lettering on the zodiac and calendar rings all suggest a date of about 1890. It was probably made in large numbers for inclusion in an educational supplier's catalogue. This is a similar design to a tellurium in the Agee collection at Birmingham Public Library, Alabama. | Publisher: | "http://collections.rmg.co.uk/" | Rights holder: | "Royal Museums Greenwich" | Subjects: | Tellurium Anstalt von Ernst Schott & Company | Source: | Royal Museums Greenwich | Identifier: | http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections... | Go to resource |
