Description: | This album is in the form of regulations and a log with text by Henry Savage and eighteen drawings by Robert Cleveley 1789. 18 leaves of wove paper with a watermark, J WHATMAN. Cover of green vellum, gold lettered on front board 'Royal Naval Academy'.
A humorous but instructive volume about the life and teaching of naval scholars at the Royal Naval Academy at Portsmouth in the late 1780's. It provides evidence that Robert Cleveley taught drawing at the Academy. Robert Cleveley (1746-1809) was one of the two artist sons of John Cleveley the dockyard painter. He became Marine Draughtsman to the Duke of Clarence (William IV) who owned this volume in his library at Bushey. It has the royal coat of arms drawn on its frontispiece. | Publisher: | http://collections.rmg.co.uk/page/7d7ded6fb50d6031e2884961a200be58.html | Source: | Royal Museums Greenwich | Identifier: | http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections... | Go to resource |
