A ship with a flag at the mizzen viewed from close under her stern. Her tafferel bears what may be intended as the arms of Amsterdam with the lion supporters lightly sketched in but no other detail. Two boats are off her port quarter. Lying close ahead of her, seen from abaft the port beam, is a larger ship with a flag at the main. Both ships bear ensigns at the stern.
The brown ink corrections and number '51' may be by the younger van de Velde.
