Description: | Medal commemorating the Battle of La Hogue, 1692. Obverse: Two officers, one brandishing a sword, the other a trident, driving Neptune's two-horsed car inscribed 'RUSS: ET ALMON' across the sea; view of the action in the distance, the town of Barfleur (left), King Louis XIV in flight. Somewhat similar to reverse of MEC0141, but the near horse at a different angle; naval action in the distance. Legend: 'DIVUMQ: SIBI POSCEBAT HONOREM' (And he demanded for himself divine honours). Exergue: 'PSEUDONEPT: OCEAN: EXPUGN: AD BARFL: MDCXCII' (The false Neptune driven from the sea in the fight off Barfleur 1692). Reverse: Stern view of the 'Soleil Royal' blowing up. Legend: 'NVNC PLVRIBVS IMPAR'. Inscribed on the stern of the ship 'NEC PLURIB . IMP'. Exergue: 'BRIT: BAT: Q. VIRTVTE. MDCXCII.' (By the valour of British and Dutch 1692.)
