Description: | Large liqueur or gin bottle commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A green glass, ovoid-bodied bottle with an indented base, the sides painted in oils. On one side is a half-length portrait surrounded by the inscription 'ADMIRAL LORD HORATIO NELSON'. Below the portrait is a naval action between 'HMS VICTORY' and the French 'RAISONNABLE' (the vessels names are inscribed on their sterns). On the other side, Nelson's shield of arms surrounded by the motto 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT' (let he who earned it bear the palm), a viscount's coronet is placed above.These items were used in licenses premises selling spirits, particularly in the Netherlands.
