Description: | Scale: 1:48. A block model of the type often used in the design of ships, and later for exhibit at the naval museum in Somerset House in the Strand, London.
The ?Caesar? was a rare example of a British-built, two-decker 80-gun ship, though many of the type were captured from the French. The ?Caesar? was often used as a flagship. In 1794 it was at the Battle of theGlorious First of June, and in 1801 it took part in a well-known action off Algeciras under Sir James Saumarez. It led an attempted attack on Brest in 1805 and later that year, under Sir Richard Strachan, it led a force that captured four French ships that had escaped from Trafalgar. It became a depot ship in 1815 and was broken up in 1821.
