Description: | Scale: 1:48. Full hull model of the 'Kathleen & May' (1900), a cargo schooner with topsail. Built plank on frame by a retired merchant sailing captain. Model is decked, equipped and rigged, whilst on the hull is inscribed ?Kathleen & May? on port and starboard bows, and ?Kathleen & May Bideford? on stern counter.
This vessel had a very active life trading around the British Isles under sail before being converted to a motor steamer in 1931. In 1960 she was the last vessel of her type to carry cargo around the British coast, and in the 1980s, the Kathleen & May underwent a major restoration where she was converted back to her original format. Today, she is in private hands and occasionally sailed for pleasure still out of her home port of Bideford, Devon.
