W. vd Velde 6...
In the left foreground is a weather quarter view of a ship (? de haen) close-hauled on the port tack under fore course, mizzen and topsail. It has a pendant at the mizzen and a boat slung out in the tackles. There is a ship ahead of her (inscription illegible) and two others well out on her starboard beam.
This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing with pen and grey ink by the Elder. It is a drawing which might be either of the Bergen expedition or of the Northern expedition 1658. The work has been rather marred by some light pen-work, probably added by Charles Gore.
