Bowl: A brass bowl with heavy copper encased ring at base. Bowl glazed top and bottom. Has filler plug and two expansion chambers on side. Inside is white with black horizontal lubber spike.
Card: Reduced diameter mica card. Card is white with black markings graduated to points and quadrantally in degrees (one set normal, one inverted). Diameter 3" (7.6 cm)
Azimuth circle: A plain circle that carries a prismatic sight and a weight containing a spirit level.
Needle: Two needles held in tubes attached to the underside of the card.
Pivot: Unsighted.
Binnacle: An all metal binnacle with a detachable hood. The hood has two windows, one glazed and the other not, and also a carrying handle. The binnacle has two fixed carrier arms for the correcting spheres. The compass is illuminated by an electric lamp inside the binnacle body. The wire to this lamp is fed in through the base of the binnacle. There is a pull bar which opens and shuts an aperture plate separating the lamp from the compass bowl and a sliding door on the side giving access to the bulb. There is also a gimbal and compass locking device. Diameter 7" (17.8 cm)
