Description: | Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the Portuguese 9 gun steam gunboat Alfonso De Albuquerque (1884) made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted pale gold below the waterline, light green above. Fittings include a decorated bow and stern; starboard bilge keel; single row of intermittent portholes; single row of four gunports with split port lids depicted in the ?open? position; stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen; forecastle and poop deck enclosed by guard rails; enclosed bridge or pilot house; two pairs of davits; single stump funnel, painted ochre; provision for a single propeller; and rudder. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard painted light blue-grey enclosed in a narrow wooden frame. Hand-rendered on backboard ?Alfonso de Albuquerque?, ?Iron wood sheathed cruiser for the Portuguese government, built by the Thames Iron Works & Shipbuilding Company, Blackwall, London. 1884.
