Description: | CALLAGHAN / 23.A NEW BOND S.T / CORNER OF CONDUIT S.T / LONDON.
IV
RICHARD DARBY / COALBROOKDALE
This achromatic telescope has a leather-covered barrel and four brass draw tubes. The other fittings include a pivoted eyepiece cover, a sliding sunshade and leather caps for each end of the telescope. Loops on the barrel and on the straps presumably once had a strap running through them.
Two names are inscribed on the smallest draw tube: 'CALLAGHAN / 23A NEW BOND ST / CORNER OF CONDUIT ST / LONDON', the maker, and 'RICHARD DARBY / COALBROOKDALE', who was probably an owner of the telescope. Several parts also have the numerals ?IV? roughly inscribed on them, probably as part of the manufacturing and assembly process.
O.G.diameter: 1.75".
