Description: | Stirrup hilted dress sword, the hilt of the sword consists of a gilt stirrup guard. The sword has a rounded pommel and back-piece, with a flute round the pommel and down the back-piece. A foul anchor motif is engraved on the langets. The black fish-skin grip is bound with three gilt wires. The straight, apparently flat-backed steel blade has one shallow groove and has rusted into the scabbard. The black leather scabbard originally has two gilt lockets and rings and a stud for frog suspension on the obverse of the top locket. The ring of the mid locket is now missing, as is the chape. The reverse of the top locket bears the words 'Stephens Opposite the Crown Portsmouth'.
