Description: | Hanger, the hilt of the hanger consists of a gilt crosspiece with inversed quillons, there is an oblong panel decorated with a design of acanthus leaves in the centre of the crosspiece. The pommel and back-piece of the hanger are deeply grooved. The hanger comes complete with a chain knuckle-guard. The ivory grip is knurled. The curved steel blade is damascened in blue and gold, and has a broad groove running to within 127mm of point. The obverse of the blade is decorated with a small design (on the shoulder) of a trophy consisting of a helmet and a sword between two knots of foliage. The reverse of the blade is decorated with a similar design as well as having a crown motif over the Royal cypher 'GR' taking the place of the trophy. The black leather scabbard has two gilt lockets with rings and chape. There is a frog button on the top locket. The lockets and chape are ornamented with lines. Tradition has it that an Officer carried this hanger during the Battle of Trafalgar.
