Description: | In the left middle-distance, a port broadside view of a ship at anchor (probably the ?Eendract?), with flag and pendant at the main. She is firing a salute as a States yact (brouwer), lee bow view, sails away, close-hauled on the starboard tack. In the centre, the stern view of another ship at anchor, probably the ?Drie Helden Davids?. In the right foreground, a starboard broadside view of a galjoot before the wind.
This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder. Some wash may have been added by a later hand. It is inscribed on the back in a late hand ?W Van de Velde 1677.?
