Description: | This is the octagonal tube for William Herschel's ten foot Newtonian (reflector) telescope. The tube is made of deal (wood) and is painted dark grey.
William Herschel made many telescopes of this type both for his own use and to sell. He made two types of ten foot reflector, this one is one of his small ten foot reflectors because it has a mirror of only 8.3 inches diameter instead of twenty-four inches. The large ten foot reflector Herschel only made one.
The stand for this telescope has not survived.
AUDIT - one unnumbered part.
