Description: | Scale: Unknown. A model of a Chinese fishing sampan made entirely in wood which has been stained and polished a dark brown finish. The hull is built from planks and has a keel plank. The transom bow and stern have extensions to their sides that are equipped with vertical poles and D-shaped rope fittings for oars. The profile has a sheer rise towards the stern. There is a removable seat at the stern. The deck lifts off entirely in five sections revealing watertight compartments below the floors. On the reverse of the main hatch cover "Fishing boat" is written. The model is displayed on a pair of shaped decorative crutches fixed to a wooden rectangular baseboard that has been grained to resemble walnut. The baseboard has four bun feet. On a paper label attached to the baseboard is "6".
TRIM Reference GEN/3636198. Look at ARC files - did this come from the RNM via the Science Museum. Looking for 15761 Model of a Chinese Sampan as stated in NMM8/2377.
