Description: | Scale: Unknown. A model of a fishing/trading sampan made entirely in wood which has been stained and varnished a dark brown colour. The planking of the hull is very heavy and secured to a frame with a large number of internal compartments. The hull shape is wide and the forefoot has been pierced. There are extensions on the port and starboard sides and at the stern quarters. A total of six hatch covers, four of which span the entire width of the deck, can be removed to show a compartmentalised stowage area. There is a sheltered steering position toward the stern, the roof of which is semi-circular in shape. Behind the steering position the rudder has a provision for being raised and lowered and the rudder itself is fenestrated. The model is displayed on two short rectangular pillar supports, on a rectangular wooden base board with bevelled edges and grained to resemble walnut. On metal handwritten label "Chinese Trading Boat".
