Description: | Surveyor's quadrant.
This is a horary quadrant marked with Gunter scales. It also has a surveyor's shadow square in the top third. It is signed 'A.W.' The maker is unknown but could be Andrew Wakely, an instrument maker working near Cherry Garden Stairs, London, in the mid-17th century. Another quadrant signed 'A.W.' is in the Whipple Museum and there is a very similar instrument signed 'Watlington' in the British Museum. This quadrant has unusual decorative engravings all around the scales. The reverse shows a Rojas projection, a side view of the celestial sphere.
Fitted with sights.
Rojas dial and volvelle on back with engraved celestial vault.
Inscription.
