Air raid alert sign, as used at London Transport stations during the Second World War
During air raids on the City in the Second World War, Londoners took refuge in shelters and Underground stations. This information board has 'Air Raid Alert has sounded' in red on one side, and 'All Clear' in green on the back. It would have been placed at the entrance to the shelters to inform people of the air raid and when it was safe to leave.
