British War Medal 1914-1920 awarded to Private Walter John Cornell of the Army Service Corps (ASC). Mr Cornell, a LGOC bus driver in civilian life, drove a B-type bus in France, transporting troops to the front. This medal was designed by W McMillan and was granted to all men who served in a theatre of war or overseas between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. The design on the reverse depicts a male figure on horseback trampling underfoot the shield of the Central Powers (Germany and its allies) and a skull and cross-bones, with the rising sun of victory above.
