Description: | A group of twenty lead alloy objects, originally recorded as polyhedral weights of Early Medieval date, but now thought to be Post Medieval buckshot. Each consists of a globule of metal impressed with a number of circular depressions. They range in size from 4mm in diameter, weighing 0.39gm, to 7.4mm in diameter, weighing 1.91gm. These are similar to Treasure Case number 2004 T411, a probable Viking weight also made of lead alloy (and so determined to be Not Treasure).Though recorded as polyhedral weights, the number of similar finds raises the possibility that these are pellets fired from a gun, similar to grape shot but smaller, and of Post Medieval date. Compare examples of buckshot in Harding (2012) "Lead Shot of the English Civil War", for example, Plate 21.
